This week, American Ventures LLC, has made THE LIST!
As reported earlier this week by Bloomberg News: “A mixed martial arts company linked to Donald Trump Jr. is looking to win government contracts by teaching fighting techniques to military and police forces. Mixed Martial Arts Group Ltd., an Australia-based company that counts celebrity brawler Conor McGregor among its investors, is hoping to win payouts from the military and first responders. Trump Jr. invested in the firm in a fundraising round late last year, and serves as an adviser to the company. American Ventures LLC, a Trump family-affiliated fund, led the round, which gathered about $3 million.”
This revolving door between private companies seeking out government contracts that have financial ties to the First Family needs to be scrutinized at the highest level. If the only barrier to entry to get a government contract is a financial relationship with the First Family, then there is systemic rot infecting every deal involving these types of companies. Republicans, when they controlled the Oversight Committee during the Obama years, adopted the mission statement: “Our solemn responsibility is to hold government accountable to taxpayers, because taxpayers have a right to know what they get from their government…” Democrats on the Armed Services & Oversight Committee’s should hold the First Family to this standard and aggressively investigate companies like American Ventures LLC.
