US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro: Reports surfaced this week that US Attorney Jeanine Pirro inexplicably signed a motion asking U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols to dismiss the two-count indictment that the DOJ brought against Bannon more than four years ago (when he was convicted of criminal contempt). Mind you, Republicans in Congress have been clinging to the “nobody is above the law” theme to justify hauling the Clintons in for questioning at the end of the month. A US Attorney acting to undermine the conviction of Bannon causes significant injury to Congress’s oversight authority. It sends the signal that if Democrats take back Congress, it’s ok to defy their subpoenas. It’s a Justice Department endorsement of obstructing Congress that will result in a complete erosion of checks-and-balances.
