According to E&E News, “Karen Budd-Falen is currently the third highest-ranking official at the department, involved in a wide range of public lands issues, including ranching on national park land in California and the Trump administration’s efforts to overhaul National Environmental Policy Act regulations.” Ms. Budd-Falen & her family may be the beneficiary of a $3.5 million windfall, tied to their ranching assets. In other words, the Interior Department official is helping shape/direct policy that her and her family could directly financially benefit from. John Dutton would be proud.
