THE REPORT: Dems Take Aim at Trump's $1.8 Billion Slush Fund

What Democrats are Doing to Hold Trump 2.0 Accountable

Welcome to this week’s edition of THE REPORT. Every Wednesday, The Watchdog Report will give a quick look at the oversight actions taken by Democrats in Congress and outside allies.

  • Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, delivered opening remarks at a hearing condemning Republicans’ escalating assault on the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in the aftermath of a baseless Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecution aimed at silencing civil rights advocates while emboldening extremist groups. Ranking Member Raskin also moved to subpoena individuals involved in the creation of President Trump’s $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund.

  • Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced the No Taxpayer-Funded Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2026 to block President Donald Trump’s illegal and unprecedented $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded MAGA slush fund as part of the corrupt settlement in Trump, v. IRS, and to restore safeguards on the use of federal settlement money.

  • Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and Richard E. Neal, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, sent a letter demanding Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and IRS CEO Frank Bisignano provide answers surrounding what they describe as “one of the most brazen acts of public corruption and self-dealing in American history,” following reports of President Trump’s settlement agreement with the IRS.

  • With AIPAC, crypto and AI super PACs already spending over half a billion dollars this primary season, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.) today introduced legislation to ban super PACs from buying our elections. The Abolish Super PACs Act would cap the contribution limit of individuals to super PACs at $5,000, effectively abolishing them and putting power back into the hands of the people.

  • U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, sent a letter to Michelle Bowman, Vice Chair for Supervision of the Federal Reserve (Fed), requesting that the Fed immediately update its 2026 stress testing scenarios ahead of the June stress tests, in light of the historic oil shock triggered by President Trump’s illegal war in Iran.
