What Democrats Are Doing to Hold Trump 2.0 Accountable
Welcome to this week’s edition of THE REPORT. Every week, The Watchdog Report will give a quick look at the oversight actions taken by Democrats in Congress and outside allies.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, launched a bicameral investigation into Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel’s misuse of taxpayer-funded resources, after obtaining a nonpublic letter from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and receiving new details from sources about Patel’s excessive travel, luxury expenditures, and personal activities disguised as official business.
Senators Elizabeth Warren & Richard Blumenthall sent a letter to SoftBank Chair and CEO Masayoshi Son “regarding concerns surrounding SoftBank Group's reported $50 million contribution to President Trump's presidential library, 1 the circumstances under which that contribution was made, and any potential connection between the donation and SoftBank's substantial interests before the federal government.”
Democrats on the Natural Resources Committee released a report detailing the latest findings of their investigation into Freedom 250, the nonprofit set up by Trump and his allies to organize events around the nation’s birthday this summer. In the report, the Democrats allege Freedom 250 — which has largely supplanted the nonpartisan, congressionally chartered America250 — “sold access to the President, solicited foreign money in America’s name, and enabled the President to enrich himself.” They say fundraisers may have misled donors who intended to support America250 — which could constitute illegal fraud, if true.
Sen. Warren (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, sent a letter to Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Export-Import Bank (EXIM) President and Chairman John Jovanovic, and U.S. International Development Finance CEO Ben Black requesting information regarding potential entanglements between the Trump Administration and Trump family business ventures, following reports that a Trump family-linked firm agreed to merge with a critical minerals group with significant mining rights in Kazakhstan. This reported deal raises significant concerns about what steps these agencies are taking to identify or assess any potential conflicts of interest arising from the Trump family’s financial stake in a company that potentially stands to benefit from federal funding.
Warren, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, investigated whether key companies with Trump family ties scored get-out-of-jail-free cards from President Donald Trump’s corrupt settlement with the Treasury Department (Treasury) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The lawmakers sent letters to the Trump Organization, World Liberty Financial, Powerus, 1789 Capital, Kalshi, Polymarket, Foundation Future Industries, Tag Air, American Bitcoin, Kaz Resources, and Trump Media and Technology Group.
Warren, Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee; Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Ranking Member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; and Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, pressed Cantor Fitzgerald (Cantor) — led by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s sons — and USA Rare Earth (USAR) on ethics concerns following their recent $1.6 billion agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce (Commerce).
Anyone who is not part of the Trump Radicalized Party needs to aggressively go after these people and seek justice for every crooked thing they are doing. There are too many to name here. I know you have a list.
Most of the tax money goes to Defence. They haven't even had an audit of what they've spent it on in 8 years. This to me is incredible. Now they are telling you flat out that there won't be an audit until 2028! 10 years with no oversight. Coincidentally that leaves it for the next administration to admit that there's been massive "waste fraud and abuse!" They don't care and the American people will just get another slogan. It's "communism" to ask!
