I joined MSNOW’s PoliticsNation with Rev. Al Sharpton for a segment about the Iran War and generational divides.
It wasn’t lost on me that just days after the SOTU Address, Trump launched his war with Iran, making him the first President in the modern-era to avoid building public support for a military conflict. The only reasons why a President would go down this path are 1.) He knows he’ll never get public support for it, or 2.) He doesn’t think he needs the public’s support. Either way, it’s clear his actions have nothing to do with being “America First.”
But what’s even more concerning to me is the lack of conversation surrounding Donald Trump’s mental fitness for office. Especially now that we are in the midst of major military conflicts in the Middle East. Think about all the noise we heard from Republicans about Joe Biden’s mental fitness for office. Why aren’t those same voices holding Donald Trump to the same “standard” or level of scrutiny?
If we are to trust Donald Trump with life and death decisions, wouldn’t we want to ensure that he has the mental acuity necessary to do the job?
The MAGA-sphere hyper-scrutinized every stutter, every misstep, every pause that Joe Biden made. I can only imagine what they would have done to Biden if he showed up to work with odd bruises on his hand, swollen ankles, or a rash on his neck. Actually, I do know what they would’ve said: he’s deteriorating before our very eyes. If you apply that same lens to Donald Trump, it’s hard not to reach that same conclusion.
