I had the opportunity to appear on Morning Joe this morning on MSNOW to expand on yesterday’s edition of “The Agenda” where I outlined the effort by the Trump machine to empower the United States Postal Service to play an unprecedented role in the upcoming election. The same USPS that just a few months ago warned Congress that they were in the brink of financial collapse and did not have the financial or human resources to execute its core functions. So on what planet does it make sense for an agency that it’s own leadership says is in “crisis,” to be given expanded powers and responsibilities while barely being able to stay afloat?
Let’s be clear, the USPS does not possess the human or financial resources (not to mention competency & expertise) needed to arbitrate who should qualify for a mail-in ballot in America. The idea that the USPS would demand states turn over their voter rolls or be denied mail-in ballots is a full-throated assault on the democratic process.
The ultimate result will be millions of US citizens being denied the opportunity to vote by mail - which is the entire point. The entirety of the Democratic Party needs to sound the alarm about this blatant effort to disenfranchise Americans and deny them the right to vote by mail.
